Recently I connected my Laptop & my PC via a straight ethernet cable. I used the ip adress 192.168.1.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.1.3 for my PC & 192.168.1.3, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.1.2 for my Laptop.
